Workshop: Transgender Campers

Did you know that, on average, 1 in 200 high school students is transgender? That means that, whether or not you knew it, your camp is probably already serving someone who identifies as transgender! What does that word really mean? Are you ready? Do you feel comfortable? Through sharing our experience at Camp Huston with transgender campers and their parents we will help create strategies to welcome transgender campers in our summer camp programs.

About the Presenter: Bill Tubbs is the longtime Executive Director of Camp Huston in the Diocese of Olympia.

Roundtable: Episcopal Service Corps and ECCC: Sharing the Same Pool

Who is looking for dynamic, faith-centered young people who want to engage in transformative life experiences that will enhance not just their own lives but the lives of others? Certainly that description fits the needs of many of our ECCC organizations, but it also describes well the people that the Episcopal Service Corps is also looking for. The pool of applicants is very similar and this session is centered on discussing how ESC and ECCC can assist each other in our recruitment efforts. The pool is similar, working together perhaps we can increase and deepen the pool. Models of ESC engagement with ECCC organizations will be presented but this is also intended as a time to brainstorm and engage.

About the Presenters: The Rev. Amity Carruba, Executive Director, Episcopal Service Corps. Rev. David Baumgart Turner, Executive Director, Camp Mokule‘ia. Mr. Brad Thompson, Executive Director, St. Columba Episcopal Conference and Retreat Center
