Camp Director - Jan. 9 - Aug. 20 - St. Dorothy's Rest, Camp Meeker, CA

St. Dorothy’s seeks a dynamic leader who is called to camp ministry. This is a unique opportunity for a person who enjoys working with people and being in the out-of-doors to spend several months to a year or more living at this beautiful site.

Initially, the camp director will be part-time (25 hours/weekly) working with the Associate Director planning and preparing for camp as well as support staff duties. Support staff duties include serving as a program staff for youth retreats, hosting retreat groups, and sharing in camp maintenance, kitchen & cleaning support. As summer camp nears, time will shift to focus more on summer camp duties.

The ideal candidate will:
•     Offer leadership for an Episcopal camp that is rich in tradition and growing in programs & capacity as St. Dorothy’s enters into its’ 111th camp season.
•    Provide enthusiasm and vision to support & improve current programs.
•    Promote camps throughout the Diocese of California & neighboring dioceses.
•    Recruit, empower & engage young adult leadership staff.
•    Foster a safe community that nurtures the spiritual, emotional and physical welfare of campers & staff.

SUMMARY: The Camp Director oversees all aspects of the summer camp program and works to ensure a safe, fun, valuable experience for staff, campers and parents. The Camp Director will work under the supervision of the Associate Director.

 - January 9, 2012 to August 20, 2012

Salary and Benefits:
- Bi-Monthly Stipend based on experience.
- Room and board provided onsite as early as January 9th through August 20, 2012.
- Arrival time may be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.

Overview:
The Camp Director is responsible for the following:
•    Trains and supervises all staff.
•    Organizes and schedules camp sessions.
•    Establishes and announces camp goals.
•    Plans camp programs and monitors camp progress.
•    Acts as principal contact for camp operations.
•    Communicates with parents and children year-round.

Specific Responsibilities Include:
-    Oversee all summer camp staff, including staff hiring & termination.
-    Attend meetings with partner agencies before camp.
-    Plan and lead staff orientation.
-    Work and communicate with parents.
-    Plan age-appropriate programs for nine weeks of camp (ages 5-18).
-    Communicate to and provide support for junior counselors (16-17yrs), counselors (18+) kitchen staff, other year round staff and the camp nurse.
-    Conduct three performance reviews of all summer staff at the start, middle and end of camp.
-    Other duties as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications include:
-    Age 18 or older.
-    At least 2 years of camp leadership or similar experience.
-    Experience supervising staff.
-    First Aid and CPR certified.
-    Current Lifeguard certification or willingness to be certified before camp begins.
-    CDL passenger B endorsement driver license or willingness to be licensed before camp begins.
