Visionary & Advocacy Council Retreat: October 15-17, 2018

ECCC's Visionary & Advocacy Council Program, founded in 2003, is a group of community leaders with a passion for the ministry of retreat centers and summer camps.

Through year-round support and participation at an annual in-person meeting, council members help broaden the goals of the ECCC Board of Directors and provide opportunities that help all Episcopal camps and centers thrive.

Please contact our Director, Bill Slocumb, to join Visionary & Advocacy Council, or RSVP to this year's event.

2018 Retreat Program: Amplifying Diversity

Creating the next version of action plans for two of ECCC's Strategic Plan Goals:

  1. MODEL radical hospitality by training, supporting, and encouraging our centers to offer programs that embrace economic, racial, and identity diversity.
  2. Create pathways to RAISE UP diverse leaders, both at our centers and within our organization.

We are excited to have Heidi J. Kim, Staff Officer for Racial Reconciliation for the Episcopal Church be our speaker! As the Staff Officer for Racial Reconciliation for the Episcopal Church, Heidi J. Kim is responsible for facilitating the establishment and growth of networks in the Church that confront structural issues of racism in society and the church. Her approach is grounded in the church’s mission to “…restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.” She believes that true reconciliation involves lovingly embracing the vast diversity of background, belief, and experience found in the Body of Christ, and finding the resilience to love in the face of difference and conflict. Heidi likes to say that being in right relationship needs to be more important than being right. She is in frequent demand as a preacher, speaker, and facilitator.

Date & Location: This year's retreat will be at Shrine Mont in the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, Monday, October 15 through Wednesday, October 17.

Shrine Mont is a conference and retreat center located in Orkney Springs, a community in western Shenandoah County, Virginia, offering historic grounds, a spectacular autumn setting, and abundant hospitality.
