Executive Director -- Ascension School Camp & Conference Center, Cove, OR (Diocese of Eastern Oregon)

Ascension School Camp and Conference Center in the Episcopal Diocese of Eastern Oregon is accepting applications for an Executive Director. Ascension School is located in the beautiful town of Cove, Oregon nestled at the foothills of the Blue Mountains. Often described as a “thin place”, the camp and conference center has a long tradition providing a place apart for reflection and spiritual renewal for both youth and adults through summer camp, year-round programs, and retreat and conference facilities and grounds.

Including support from the diocese, the organization has a budget of $370,000, operates year-round with a 7-week summer camp program, a conference center that sleeps 22 with an additional 3,000 square foot multi-purpose building that can accommodate 200 people. There are two full-service kitchens and a partial-service kitchen. The facility has a total of 15 buildings. There are 3 full-time positions and 2 part-time positions that work year around, including the Executive Director, Operations Director and the Food Services Manager and part-time housekeeper and grounds/maintenance positions. The summer camp program director and staff are seasonal.

A recently successful capital campaign funded the construction of a new multi-purpose building that enhances the summer camp program and offers an inviting space for larger groups and community members to use. The camps sits on close to 100 acres with 11 of the acres developed. The plans for the future of the camp and conference center include ways to take advantage of the richness of the non-developed land by creating additional spaces for worship and spiritual reflection in an outdoor setting. Projects that continue to be developed are the greenhouse and memorial garden.

The Diocesan offices were relocated to the camp 5 years ago. The Executive Director works closely with the Diocesan Administrator/Bishop’s Executive Secretary and reports directly to the Bishop. A key part of this unique and successful model is the collaborative way the staff works together to live into the mission of Ascension School and the Episcopal Diocese of Eastern Oregon.
