Job: Interim Summer Camp Director (Bishop's Ranch, California)
Seasonal Position: June 1-August 7th
The Interim Camp Director will lead the team of staff and volunteers who carry out summer camp programming this season. The Interim Camp Director functions as an integral member of the Ranch Hospitality Team and helps provide gracious hospitality to all our guests, volunteers, residents and staff throughout the summer. Summer Camps sponsored by the Bishop’s Ranch are focused on Community, Spiritual Life, the Arts and Creation Care – primarily through Sustainable Agriculture and Watershed Protection. The Interim Camp Director is responsible for providing leadership to all Bishop’s Ranch Summer Camps which includes 2 weeks of intergenerational “family” camps, 1 week of high school overnight camp, 1 week of junior high school overnight camp and 1 week of READ day camp with students from the local elementary school. Living at the Ranch during the camp season is required.
Primary Duties
Oversee development, planning and leadership of week-long training of seasonal and volunteer camp staff
Provide leadership to camp staff throughout the summer including Assistant Camp Director, Ranch Hands, Counselors, Nurses, Chaplains and Volunteers
Ensure completion of additional training where appropriate
Counsel, discipline and evaluate seasonal and volunteer camp staff
Ensure Ranch compliance with ACA standards.
Coordinate scheduling and share information with other Ranch staff as needed

Qualifications:
Service-oriented with a deep love of people and the practice of hospitality
Is able to approach tasks with good humor and enthusiasm
Cultural Fluency in Spanish-Language Fluency preferred
Previous Summer Camp leadership experience
With initial direction, able to complete tasks alone
and manage time
Excellent communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Knowledge of basic emergency response skills: contacts, CPR, AED
Volunteer management skills
Good attention to detail
Able to lift and carry tools and objects while walking over the property
Able to lift 40 pounds unassisted and 60 pounds with assistance
Environmental and religious sensitivity
Positive, Energetic, Flexible Leader

We fulfill the mission of the Ranch by providing hospitality for retreats, conferences and other gatherings to groups and individuals from the Diocese of California, other churches, and non-profit groups. Our goal is to provide these services in a personal and relaxed but efficient way that enables guests to reach their goals for spiritual, personal, and organizational growth.
Working at The Bishop’s Ranch is service oriented, and doing our jobs successfully is based on teamwork. Because of the wide-ranging nature of the tasks involved in caring for our guests and facilities, it may be necessary to perform tasks outside our usual line of work. For example: when on duty in the kitchen a guest may come in and ask where sports equipment is found; an office worker may be called to help when a guest finds a broken water valve; a maintenance worker may need to help in the kitchen when a group suddenly has increased in numbers, or a cook must leave due to illness. The flexibility to help in such a situation in order to support our guests and the overall goals of the Ranch is a requirement of working at The Bishop’s Ranch.
COMPENSATION INCLUDES
Furnished Apartment and most meals provided at the Bishop’s Ranch
Cash Stipend of $12,500 for the season
Travel Expenses up to $1,500 for relocation
