A Look at Giving in 2018, and What It Means for Today

Changes to the tax code have made many of us in the non-profit world anxious: Without a tax incentive, will individuals be as inclined to donate? The first data is in.

Giving USA released its report on charitable giving in the United States, Giving USA 2019: The Annual Report on Philanthropy for the Year 2018. The report was researched and written by the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. For the most recent year, giving rose by almost $3 billion from 2017, from $424.74 billion to $427.71 billion. However, when inflation is factored in, this represents a decrease of 1.7%.
